2024 Translational grantee Dr. Gelareh Zadeh is a neurosurgeon and Chair of the Department of Neurologic Surgery at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Dr. Zadeh’s research focuses on analysis of brain tumors to better understand responses to targeted therapies. Her research also focuses on using biomarkers for detection and diagnosis of brain tumors. With support from the V Foundation, Dr. Zadeh is studying a set of molecular clues present in tumors (biomarkers) to help predict if brain tumors will respond to treatment. Additionally, she will determine if the same molecular clues can be detected in a simple blood test to non-invasively predict tumor response to therapy. This work has the potential to dramatically improve the way patients with brain tumors are treated.
